Hotmail Founder Sabeer Bhatia to Marry in LangkawiIn 1995, Sabeer Bhatia and his team realised the potential of a web-based e-mail system and thus decided to create one called HoTMaiL (the uppercase letters spelling out HTML - the language used to write the base of a webpage). In order to attract attention, the e-mail service was provided for free and revenue was obtained through the advertising on the website. Draper Fisher Ventures invested $300,000 on the project and the service was launched on July 4, 1996.

In less than six months, the website attracted over 1 million subscribers. As the interest in the web-based email provider increased, Microsoft eventually took notice and on December 30, 1997, Hotmail was sold to Microsoft for a reported sum of $400 million.

The Langkawi islands
The Langkawi island is a group of 99 islands (as stated in tourism brochures) and is located in the north western part of Peninsular Malaysia.  It is also known locally as an island of legends. Tourists visiting the main island (Pulau Langkawi) on their sightseeing round island tour will most often hear their tour guides recounting the various story book history tales and local fables.

Events both locally and international in nature were drawn up for the yearly activities calendar. International exhibitions, such as the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (known by its initials LIMA) were included in that calendar.

It is the only place in the Malaysia where tobacco and alcohol are the cheapest; this is because of the duty free status given to promote tourism.

It has been more that two decades now since the efforts to promote tourism on that group of islands and today it is a popular tourist destination for the locals Malaysians especially during public and school holidays.

Hotmail Founder Sabeer To Marry In Exotic Langkawi

NEW DELHI, Feb 6 (Bernama) — Hotmail founder, Indian-born Sabeer Bhatia, who became an overnight millionaire after selling his web-based e-mail service to Microsoft, plans to get hitched in Langkawi Island next month.

Sabeer, 40, chose Langkawi as his preferred venue to wed Tania Sharma, on March 9, and dignitaries from far and wide are expected to bless the marriage at the Taj Rebak Marina Resort located on the world famous island.

“We wanted an exclusive island for the wedding. Sabeer wanted to have it in Hawaii but it would be too far for our guests. We were thinking of Phuket, Bangkok or Koh Samui (Thailand) but decided on Langkawi,” R.K. Sharma, the father of the bride-to-be, told Bernama.

The Golden Compass Movies Review

The Golden Compass Movies The Golden Compass Movies

Based on author Philip Pullman’s novel, ‘The Golden Compass’ is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people’s souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra (played by newcomer Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who’s been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well. The cast includes Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, and Ian McShane.

The movie of Philip Pullman’s award-winning book is a thrilling fantasy-adventure with spectacular sights, plenty of action, a charming lead and … sighh, no real ending.

Stephen Chow’s “Yangtze River 7″ Movie

Hong Kong comic star and director Stephen Chow’s new movie “Yangtze River 7″ has wrapped up shooting and released a series of promotional posters. Since it began shooting in August, the science fiction movie has received much attention as this time Chow plays opposite a kid who is an alien from outer space.

The China Film Group Corporation, which is in charge of the movie’s promotion, announced that the movie will be brought to the big screen in January 2008, as part of the nation’s New Years line up. The latest news from Stephen Chow’s new comedy “YANGTZE RIVER 7” is that it will be released in February 2008, just in time for Chinese Newyear.

The sci-fi oriented story concerns Chow’s trademark down-on-his-luck character taking care of an alien who has disguised himself to look like a little boy. Stephen has claimed that even though this movie will contain special effects and drama, the emphasis will remain on crazy stunts as ever.

No idea if this will match the utter brilliance of Chow’s “Shaolin Soccer” or “Kung Fu Hustle” but I’m sure it will be fun finding out, especially now that the rumors seem to be true about the film containing a scene in which Stephen Chow is fighting a 7 foot schoolgirl in uniform!
