Google is an advertising cheapskate!

What is the most valuable brand in the world? Google is the number one brand in the world with an estimated value of $66 billion according consulting firm Millward Brown Optimor. This got me thinking… How did Google become the most valuable brand in the world in just a short nine years? I find this question very interesting. Conventional wisdom would suggest that Google must spend billions of dollars in advertising every year to accomplish such an impressive feat.

Well after a bit of research, one thing becomes clear… Google is an advertising cheapskate!

There are a whole bunch of factors that have combined to drive Google’s amazing success, but an aggressive advertising spend is not one of them. To put it into perspective for you, let me first share with you how much Google’s big competitors spent on marketing and sales last year.

In the last fiscal year,
Microsoft spent $11.5 billion on marketing and sales.
Yahoo! spent $1.3 billion.
eBay spent $871 million.

Google? Well Google spent a paltry $188 million on marketing and sales in 2006. To me, this is an absolutely amazing stat. A $66 billion brand on the back of less than $200 million in annual marketing expenses in less than one decade! In addition, what Google does spend on advertising is largely focused on finding great people to come work at Google. That is also pretty interesting.

How to Set the Right Product Price

There are many outside influences that affect profitability and a manufacturer bottom line. Setting the right price is a crucial step toward achieving that profit. Manufacturer is in business to make a profit, but figuring out what and how to price products may not come easily.

Before we can determine which retail pricing strategy to use in setting the right price, we must know the costs associated with the products. Two key elements in factoring product cost is the cost of goods and the amount of operating expense.

The cost of goods includes the amount paid for the product, plus any handling expenses. The cost of operating the business, or operating expense, includes overhead, payroll, marketing and office supplies.

Regardless of the pricing strategy used, the retail price of the products should more than cover the cost of obtaining the goods plus the expenses related to operating the business.

A retailer or manufacturer simply cannot succeed in business if they continue to sell their products below cost.

Advertlets Income RM589.27 in 4 Month

By referring to my previous post about advertlets, today I want to share my experience using advertlets ads. Do you use advertlets ads as your blog income? I use advertlets ads since January 2008. I will request for withdrawal by end of this May 08. If all process running smoothly, I aspect to get advertlets income in July 08 around RM600.00-RM650.00

Please don’t compare with google adsense, advertlets ads is pretty simple to apply in your blog and never worry about matching with blog content. (as long your blog comply with their T.O.S). Currently, advertlets supply ads service only for Malaysian and Singaporean. It mean, when non-Malaysia i/p or Singapore i/p click advertlets ads, the publisher won`t get any dime.

Getting RM600.00 or average RM150.00 per month using advertlets ads income is fine with me. “Lepas budget beli beras sebulan” LOL!

Anyone who already get advetlets payment? How much you earn using advertlets ads?
